Soman Chainani
Soman Chainani is an Indian-American author, screenwriter, and filmmaker. He is best known for his New York Times bestselling series The School for Good and Evil, which has sold over 3 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 30 languages. He is also the author of the novel A World Without Princes, and the upcoming The Last Ever After.
Chainani was born in Mumbai, India, and moved to the United States at the age of five. He attended Harvard University, where he earned a degree in English and American Literature and Language. After graduating, he worked as a screenwriter in Los Angeles, writing for television shows such as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Chainani's debut novel, The School for Good and Evil, was published in 2013 and quickly became a bestseller. The series follows two best friends, Sophie and Agatha, as they are kidnapped and taken to a mysterious school where they must compete to become the next fairy tale hero or villain. The series has been praised for its unique take on classic fairy tales, and has been adapted into a graphic novel and a musical.
Chainani is also an advocate for diversity in children's literature, and has spoken at numerous events and conferences about the importance of representation in books. He is currently working on a new series, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, which will be released in 2021.
