Sharon Jones
Sharon Jones was an American soul and funk singer, best known as the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated soul and funk band Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Born in Augusta, Georgia, Jones began her career as a backing vocalist for artists such as Lee Fields and the late great Charles Bradley. She was known for her powerful, soulful voice and her dynamic stage presence.
Jones released five studio albums with The Dap-Kings, including the critically acclaimed I Learned the Hard Way (2010) and Soul of a Woman (2017). She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album for her work on I Learned the Hard Way. Jones was also featured in the documentary Miss Sharon Jones! (2015), which chronicled her battle with pancreatic cancer.
