Kamila Shamsie

Kamila Shamsie is a Pakistani novelist and essayist. She is best known for her award-winning novels, which explore themes of identity, faith, and belonging. Her works have been translated into more than 20 languages and have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Man Booker Prize. Shamsie was born in 1973 in Karachi, Pakistan. She studied at Hamilton College in the United States and earned a master's degree in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia. She has written seven novels, including Burnt Shadows, Home Fire, and A God in Every Stone. Her latest novel, The City of Palaces, was released in 2020. Shamsie is a passionate advocate for freedom of expression and has written extensively on the subject. She is a member of the International Parliament of Writers and a patron of English PEN. She has also served as a judge for the Man Booker Prize and the Women's Prize for Fiction. In addition to her writing, Shamsie is an active member of the literary community. She has served as a mentor for the Royal Literary Fund and is a frequent speaker at literary festivals around the world. She is also a professor of Creative Writing at the University of Manchester.
