Karl Deisseroth

Karl Deisseroth is a professor of bioengineering and of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University. He is a pioneer in the field of optogenetics, a technique that uses light to control the activity of neurons. He is also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Deisseroth has received numerous awards for his work, including the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences, the Kavli Prize in Neuroscience, and the Canada Gairdner International Award.
