Peter Westmacott is a British diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States. He was educated at Eton College and the University of Oxford, and joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1976. He has held a number of senior diplomatic posts, including High Commissioner to India, Ambassador to Turkey, and Permanent Representative to the European Union. He was appointed Ambassador to the United States in 2012, and served in that role until 2016. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the British Museum. He is a passionate advocate for international cooperation and the promotion of British values around the world.
