Jean-Pierre Filiu is a French historian and professor at Sciences Po in Paris. He is an expert on the Middle East and has written extensively on the region's history and politics. He is the author of several books, including The Arab Revolution: Ten Lessons from the Democratic Uprising, The Arab World: A History of the Present, and From Deep State to Islamic State: The Arab Counter-Revolution and its Jihadi Legacy.
