Jackie Sibblies Drury
Jackie Sibblies Drury is an American playwright and theatre artist. She is best known for her plays We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915 and Fairview, which won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Drury was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in the Bronx. She attended the Bronx High School of Science and graduated from Brown University in 2003. She then went on to receive her MFA in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama in 2006.
Drury's plays have been produced at numerous theatres across the United States, including the Soho Rep, Playwrights Horizons, and the Public Theater. Her work has also been seen in the UK, Germany, and Canada. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Windham-Campbell Prize, the Whiting Award, and the Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award.
Drury is a professor at the Yale School of Drama and a resident playwright at New Dramatists. She is also a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America. Her work is known for its exploration of identity, race, and history, and her plays often feature characters who are struggling to find their place in the world.
