Tsitsi Dangarembga

Tsitsi Dangarembga is a Zimbabwean author, filmmaker, and playwright. She is best known for her 1988 novel Nervous Conditions, which is considered a modern African classic. Dangarembga was born in Mutare, Zimbabwe in 1959. She studied medicine at the University of Zimbabwe before moving to England to pursue a degree in psychology. She later returned to Zimbabwe and began writing and directing plays. In addition to Nervous Conditions, Dangarembga has written several other novels, including The Book of Not and This Mournable Body. She has also written and directed several films, including the award-winning Neria. Dangarembga is a powerful voice for African women and her work has been widely praised for its insight into the African experience.
