Gerald Moore

Gerald Moore (1911-1987) was an English classical pianist and accompanist. He was renowned for his sensitive and sympathetic accompaniment of singers and instrumentalists, and was particularly associated with the art song repertoire. He was also a professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Moore was born in Watford, England, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. He made his debut as a soloist in London in 1933, and soon became a sought-after accompanist. He toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and was a regular guest on BBC radio. Moore was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1977, and was made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in 1983. He died in 1987, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music.
