James Hogg
James Hogg (1770-1835) was a Scottish poet and novelist. He was born in Ettrick, Scotland, and was the son of a tenant farmer. He was largely self-educated, and his works often reflect his rural upbringing. He is best known for his novel The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner (1824). He also wrote several collections of poetry, including The Mountain Bard (1807) and The Queen's Wake (1813). His works often feature themes of Scottish folklore and superstition, and he is credited with helping to preserve the Scottish dialect. He was a major influence on the Romantic movement in Scotland, and his works remain popular to this day.
