Eleanor H. Porter

Eleanor H. Porter (1868-1920) was an American author best known for her novel Pollyanna (1913). She was born in Littleton, New Hampshire and attended the local schools. She wrote her first novel, Cross Currents, in 1905. Her most famous work, Pollyanna, was a bestseller and was adapted into a Broadway play and several films. Porter wrote several other novels, including Just David (1916) and Dawn (1917). She was a popular author in her time, and her works are still widely read today. Porter was a strong advocate for women's rights and was a member of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. She died in 1920 at the age of 52.
