Werner Sonne

Werner Sonne (1941-2020) was a German journalist and television presenter. He was born in Berlin and studied journalism at the Free University of Berlin. He began his career as a reporter for the Berliner Zeitung in 1965 and later worked for the German news magazine Der Spiegel. He was best known for his work as a television presenter on the German news program Tagesthemen, which he hosted from 1981 to 1998. He was also a regular contributor to the German public broadcaster ARD. Sonne was a passionate advocate for press freedom and human rights, and was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1998.
