Frances Hodgson Burnett
Frances Hodgson Burnett was an English-American playwright and author. She is best known for her children's novels, such as Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess, and The Secret Garden. Burnett was born in Manchester, England in 1849. She moved to the United States in 1865, where she began writing stories for magazines to support her family. Her first novel, That Lass o' Lowrie's, was published in 1877.
Burnett's works often explore themes of poverty, gender roles, and class. Her stories often feature strong female protagonists who are able to overcome difficult circumstances. She was also a pioneer in the genre of children's literature, creating stories that were both entertaining and educational. Her works have been adapted into numerous films, plays, and musicals.
Burnett was a prolific writer, publishing over forty novels and numerous short stories. She was also a successful playwright, with her plays being performed on Broadway and in London's West End.
