Daniel Defoe

Daniel Defoe (1660-1731) was an English writer, journalist, and pamphleteer. He is most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe, which is considered to be one of the earliest English novels. Defoe was born in London and was the son of a butcher. He was educated at a Dissenting Academy and went on to become a successful businessman. Defoe wrote over 500 books, pamphlets, and journals during his lifetime. He wrote on a variety of topics, including politics, religion, and economics. He was a prolific writer and was known for his sharp wit and satire. He was also a staunch supporter of the Whig party and wrote many political pamphlets in support of their cause. Defoe was also a spy for the government and wrote several works of fiction under the pseudonym of Andrew More. He was arrested and imprisoned several times for his political activities. Defoe's most famous work, Robinson Crusoe, was published in 1719 and was an immediate success. It is considered to be one of the first English novels and has been adapted into numerous films and television shows. Defoe's works are still widely read today and he is considered to be one of the most influential writers of the 18th century. He is remembered for his sharp wit, satire, and his ability to capture the spirit of the times.
