Alex Wheatle

Alex Wheatle is a British novelist, playwright, and activist. Born in London in 1963, he was raised in a children's home and later in a foster home. He is best known for his novels, which often explore the experiences of young black people in Britain. His works include Brixton Rock, East of Acre Lane, and The Dirty South. He has also written plays, including The Estate, which was performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Wheatle is a prominent advocate for social justice and racial equality, and has been awarded an MBE for his services to literature. He is a passionate believer in the power of storytelling to bring about positive change.
