Pamela Newkirk
Pamela Newkirk is an award-winning journalist, author, and professor of journalism at New York University. She is best known for her work on issues of race and media representation, and her books, including Spectacle: The Astonishing Life of Ota Benga and Within the Veil: Black Journalists, White Media.
Newkirk has written for a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The Guardian. She has also appeared on numerous television and radio programs, including PBS NewsHour, NPR, and BBC World News.
Newkirk is a frequent speaker at universities and conferences, and has been honored with numerous awards, including the National Association of Black Journalists’ Ida B. Wells Award for Investigative Journalism, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Excellence in Journalism Award, and the National Association of Science Writers’ Science in Society Award.
Newkirk is a passionate advocate for diversity in media, and has been a leader in the fight for greater representation of people of color in the media. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the National Association of Science Writers.
