Ron Chernow

Ron Chernow is an American historian, biographer, and journalist. He is best known for his biographies of historical figures such as George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John D. Rockefeller, and Ulysses S. Grant. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Pulitzer Prize for Biography for his 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton. Chernow was born in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Yale University in 1975. He began his career as a journalist, writing for publications such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He then moved into writing biographies, beginning with The House of Morgan in 1990. This book was a comprehensive history of the banking dynasty and won the National Book Award for Nonfiction. Chernow has since written several other acclaimed biographies, including Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. (1998), Alexander Hamilton (2004), and Grant (2017). He has also written several books on the history of New York City, including The Warburgs (1993) and Gotham (1999). Chernow is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Society of American Historians. He has also served as a consultant for the Broadway musical Hamilton, which was based on his biography of Alexander Hamilton.
