Kamala Harris
Kamala Harris is an American politician and attorney who is the Vice President of the United States. She is the first woman, the first Black American, and the first Asian American to hold the office. Harris was born in Oakland, California, to a Jamaican father and an Indian mother. She attended Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Harris began her career as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in 1990. She was elected District Attorney of San Francisco in 2003, and was re-elected in 2007. In 2010, she was elected California's Attorney General, and was re-elected in 2014. In 2016, she was elected to the United States Senate, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the chamber.
In 2020, Harris was chosen as the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. On November 7, 2020, she was declared the winner of the election, making her the first female Vice President of the United States. Harris is a vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, and has championed issues such as healthcare, immigration, and climate change. She is a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act, and has called for an end to the death penalty.
