Peter Gatien
Peter Gatien was a Canadian-American entrepreneur and nightclub owner who was known as the "King of Clubs" in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He owned and operated several of the most popular nightclubs in New York City, including the Limelight, the Palladium, and the Tunnel. He was known for his lavish parties and celebrity guests, and was credited with helping to popularize the rave and club culture of the time.
Gatien was born in Cornwall, Ontario, and moved to New York City in the early 1980s. He quickly established himself as a successful nightclub owner, and his clubs became popular with celebrities, musicians, and other high-profile figures. He was also known for his extravagant parties, which often featured live performances from popular musicians.
Gatien's success was short-lived, however, as he was arrested in 1996 on charges of tax evasion and money laundering. He was convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison, but was released after serving four years. After his release, Gatien moved back to Canada and opened a restaurant in Toronto. He died in 2019 at the age of 75.
