Phil Knight
Phil Knight is an American business magnate and philanthropist. He is the co-founder and chairman emeritus of Nike, Inc., one of the world's largest suppliers of athletic shoes and apparel. Knight was born in Portland, Oregon, and attended the University of Oregon, where he ran track and field. After graduating, he worked as an accountant for a short time before founding Blue Ribbon Sports, which later became Nike.
Knight has been credited with transforming Nike into one of the world's most recognizable and successful brands. He has also been a major donor to the University of Oregon, donating millions of dollars to the school's athletic programs. In addition, he has donated to numerous other causes, including the Oregon Health & Science University, the Oregon Community Foundation, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
Knight has been recognized for his business acumen and philanthropy, receiving numerous awards and honors, including the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the Horatio Alger Award. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and the National Business Hall of Fame in 2017.
