Jill Soloway
Jill Soloway is an American television writer, director, and producer. She is best known for creating the Amazon Studios comedy-drama series Transparent, for which she won two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards. Soloway has also directed and produced the films Afternoon Delight and The Land of Steady Habits, and has written for the television series Six Feet Under and United States of Tara.
Soloway was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in a Jewish family. She attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she studied film and literature. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles and began her career as a writer for the television series Six Feet Under. She then wrote for the series United States of Tara, which earned her a Writers Guild of America Award nomination.
In 2014, Soloway created the Amazon Studios comedy-drama series Transparent, which follows the story of a transgender parent and their family. The series earned Soloway two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards. She has also directed and produced the films Afternoon Delight and The Land of Steady Habits, and has written for the television series How to Make It in America.
Soloway is an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and has been vocal about her support for the transgender community. She has also been a vocal advocate for the Time's Up movement, which seeks to end sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.
